This quest can be started in several ways, depending on how you try to enter the maze and whether you already have Band of Braccus. Check the description of the The Vault of Braccus Rex quest to find out how to get the ring.
Try to open Iron Door.
A gargoyle at the entrance to the maze told us that the locked doors within need to be opened with souls. It intimated that we might find some inside the maze. We should think carefully about which doors we open with these souls.
Try to open Iron Door. If you've been to the Dark Cavern, you've beaten Real Trompdoy (lvl 5) and got Band of Braccus, show it to the gargoyle.

You will be teleported to the base of the tower.
We showed the Necromancer Ring to the Gargoyle at the entrance of the maze. It thought we were Braccus Rex, and we were teleported to the tower.
When you try to enter the tower, this quest will be completed but no rewards!
You can teleport your characters to the other side of the beach near the entrance to the Dark Cavern and use the Vines to climb to the maze from behind.
A gargoyle told us that we entered the garden maze topsy-turvy. It told us that the locked doors within need to be opened with souls. It intimated that we might find some inside the maze. We should think carefully about which doors we open with these souls.
You can teleport your characters to the other side of the beach near the entrance to the Dark Cavern, use the Vines to climb to the east side of the tower, go around and enter the tower.
The gargoyle on the Necromancer Tower told us that we entered his maze incorrectly. If we want any aid in making it through, we must seek the correct entrance.
We entered the maze and the gargoyle revealed to us that the skulls are old and rare.
Find two Crumbling Skulls and use them to open locked gates in the maze.
We've already broken two of those old skulls, perishing the souls within. The maze must not expect us to explore all of its rooms.
Enter the maze's "section" with The Historian (lvl 6) and come closer to the gargoyle's head located there.
A gargoyle in the maze congratulated us on our progress. Perhaps we are going the wrong way?
The maze rewarded us with an additional skull!
We have successfully navigated our way through the maze.
