Where the Stone Falls Assassin's Creed Valhalla Quest

Group: Lincolnscire / The Lay of Hunwald

This quest will start when you have completed the quests "Salve for a Fresh Wound" and "The Thegn of Lincoln".

The Shiremoot is set to begin. Votes will be cast for Hunwald, Aelfgar, and Herefrith, but only one can be elected ealdorman.

Quest stages of Where the Stone Falls

1. Speak to Acha

When you are ready to attend the meeting to select the new ealdorman, tell Acha about it. You will find her in the market square near the entrance to Lincoln Town Hall.

2. Vote for a new Ealdorman

You don't have to, but you can talk to the people in the room to get their opinion on who should be elected. When you are ready then approach the table and cast your vote. Who you choose will have an impact on what happens next.

  • Vote for Aelfgar - Aelfgard will be elected as the next ealdorman. The bishop will reveal himself to be a member of the Order of the Ancients, let his soldiers into the room and flee himself. A little later, after capturing Anecastre, Hunwald will ask you to allow him and his beloved - Swanburrow, to join your settlement.
  • Vote for Hunwald - Hunwald will be elected as the next ealdorman. The bishop will reveal himself to be a member of the Order of the Ancients, let his soldiers into the room and flee himself. A little later, after capturing Anecastre, Hunwald will ask you to allow his beloved - Swanburrow, to join your settlement and find shelter there.
  • Vote for Bishop Herefrith - Herefrith will be elected as the new ealdorman. Hunwald and his beloved will settle together in Grimsby. The true identity of the bishop will not be revealed until later in the game. When you kill the bishop some time later, Aelfgar will take over his position and Hunwald and his woman will move to your settlement.

3. (Optional) Speak with Bishop Herefrith

This objective is optional. If you have decided that the Bishop should be the new ealdorman then you will be able to talk to him. The Bishop will thank you for your trust in him and promise you an alliance. This will end this quest, and you will be able to return to your settlement to report to Randvi - Reporting on Lincolnscire.

(Optional) Speak with Bishop Herefrith

Note: You will learn that the bishop is a member of the Order later in the game. At some point, in my case it was after completing the quests in Jorvik (perhaps this will be after you have completed the next pledge), Randvi will inform you about the letter from Aelfgar, in which he writes that the bishop has turned on his people, and then the slightly modified quest "A Sword-Shower in Anecastre" will appear in your journal.

(Optional) Speak with Bishop Herefrith

4. (Optional) Eliminate Herefrith's guards

This objective is optional. If Aelfgar or Hunwald are chosen as the new ealdorman, Bishop Herefrith will reveal his true identity as a member of the Order. He will bring his soldiers into the hall to kill those gathered, and he himself will flee.

(Optional) Eliminate Herefrith's guards

Together with the others you have to get rid of all the soldiers who ran into the town hall.

(Optional) Eliminate Herefrith's guards

Once the struggle is over, whether Hunwald or Aelfgar has been chosen as the new leader, you will decide that the bishop must be found and killed as soon as possible. This quest will end and you will receive a new one - A Sword-Shower in Anecastre.

(Optional) Eliminate Herefrith's guards

After completing Where the Stone Falls you will get or will be able to get A Sword-Shower in Anecastre and Reporting on Lincolnscire (1 of 2).
