A Brother's Keeper Assassin's Creed Valhalla Quest

Group: Hordafylke / In the Hall of the Slain

This quest is a continuation of the quest "Where Legends Are Born". It begins when you and Sigurd reach the northernmost fjord.

Eivor travels with Sigurd deep into Hordafylke's wilderness where even greater mysteries await.

Prior quests

To begin A Brother's Keeper you must first complete Where Legends Are Born.

Quest stages of A Brother's Keeper

1. Follow Sigurd

Follow Sigurd until you reach the cave - Goinnhellir.

Follow Sigurd

Destroy the ice wall blocking the passage.

Keep following Sigurd and eventually you will reach an ancient door. Sigurd will speak an incantation in a language you do not understand and the door will open.

Continue following Sigurd until you reach an ancient elevator. Sigurd will activate it by uttering another spell.

The elevator will take you down to a huge cave containing an ancient machine.

Continue to follow Sigurd until you reach the machine. Sigurd will explain you how to use the machine, and after a while he will do it himself.

2. Reach the central platform

Just get on the platform and then the machine will connect to you.

When you regain consciousness you will be in a chamber of some sort. Walk up to the door and go outside.

Go forward until you reach Sigurd standing in the company of Svala, Valka's deceased mother. Eivor will talk to them for a while and notice that Sigurd has regained his lost arm.

When the battle horns sound, enter the battlefield through the giant doors that will open. You can take part in a fight for fun, your opponents will not deal you any damage to you and they will die from one blow.

After a while, when Sigurd gets rid of his opponents, he will move to a small rock in the field and stand there, calling you to fight him. Walk up to him and talk to him to star the duel.

The duel will begin. Defeating Sigurd shouldn't be a problem for you, especially since he won't inflict any damage on you.

Your duel will end with you cutting off Sigurd's arm, but he will not hold it against you. The sound of horns will announce the end of the day and after a moment you will wake up again in the first chamber.

Another day will begin. Walk out into the square again and talk to Sigurd, who has his arm back again. After a while the battle will begin. This time, someone else will cut off Sigurd's arm. Approach him and talk to him.

While you are talking, you will notice a person who looks very much like your father. Unfortunately, when you try to come closer to him to check it out, the day will end and you will wake up in the first chamber again.

The third day will begin. Go out to the square. There you will meet Sigurd and Svala, who you will ask about your father. Then walk forward until you see someone who resembles your father. When you get a little closer to him then a battle will start and the man will run to the battlefield.

Run out onto the battlefield. After a while you will find Sigurd, whose arm has been cut off again. Talk to him and you will again notice a man who looks like your father. This time you will be able to approach him. It will not be your father, but someone else.

Suddenly you will be hit by an arrow, which of course will not do you any harm. This day will end and you will move again to the first chamber. After a while Sigurd will come into the chamber and will bring your father with him.

Eivor will realize that something is wrong, that his father is not real, and will throw a knife at him. Sigurd will then explain to him that he used his powers to bring his "fake" father because he wanted to please him.

Another battle will begin. Run out onto the square and approach and talk to Svala who is standing near the gate. You will state that you do not want to stay in a world where everything is not true.

Then run out to the battlefield and find Sigurd. You will find him in the same place as before. You will start to convince him that you both should leave this illusionary world. At first he will be against it, but eventually he will agree with you.

Then Odin will appear, who does not want to let you go and will teleport you to a strange, dark place.

Follow Odin, along the way he will bring up various events from your life. When you reach the stone gate, talk to him and the battle with him will begin.

Odin can deal damage to you, but he cannot kill you. This fight isn't really a fight, it's an escape. You must reach the gate where your friends are waiting for you. In order to do that, you must get rid of your axe. Just open your character screen and unequip it.

If you don't get rid of your weapon and try to run to the gate then Odin will be able to pull you back.

Without the axe you will easily reach the gate and after a short conversation with Odin, in which you will make him realize what is more important to you than what he has to offer you, you will return to the real world.

There will be a surprise waiting for you in the real world. You and Sigurd will successfully leave the simulation, but in the cave will be waiting for you Basim, who unfortunately will not have friendly intentions towards you.

3. Confront Basim

Enter the area where Basim is waitiing for you. Unlike other boss fights, there is no health bar for Basim at the top of the screen but after inflicting enough damage to him the next phase of the fight should begin.

Basim is very quick and agile. During the first stage of the battle Basim will move very fast around the arena and use smoke bombs to hide. His primary attack will be an air assassination from the upper platform. You must dodge his attacks and quickly counterattack. He can also charge you or use the throwing knives.

After you've dealt some damage to him, the arena you're in will start to move up and the second phase will begin. During this stage Basim will no longer be able to jump and attack you from the air so it will be mostly melee fight. At some point you will be able to deal stun damage to him.

When you do this, you will hurt him, and he will use a smoke bomb and start running away.

4. Chase Basim

Just run after Basim by jumping, climbing, sliding, etc. until you reach the ancient machine. Basim will try to kill Sigurd but at the last moment you will prevent him from doing so.

5. Defeat Basim

A fight will begin that will resemble the fight you had with Basim on the moving elevator. In the meantime, Sigurd will be doing something with the ancient machine.

At some point you should be able to deal stun damage to Basim. When you do that, Sigurd will activate the machine, and after a while you will send Basim to another dimension. This will end this fight.

After the fight is over, you and Sigurd will sit down to rest. Sigurd will summarize the important decisions you've made during the various quests, and decide whether to return with you to England or stay in Norway. He will return with you to England, which can be considered a "good ending", if you have made three decisions that he considers correct. These decisions are:

  1. The Seas of Fate - If you didn't take the supplies to England but left them for Styrbjorn.
  2. A Brewing Storm - If you let Dag die with honor.
  3. Blood from a Stone - If you didn't hit Sigurd during that quest.
  4. Blame and Sail - If you have not questioned his judgment.
  5. Taken For Granted - If you didn't romance Randvi before she and Sigurd ended their marriage.

This quest will end and you will jump automatically to the present day and take on the role of Layla ... and someone else ;-)

6. Present Day

You will return to the present time where you will talk to Shaun and Rebecca about what happened. When you regain control of your character you can talk to Rebecca who you'll find in the house, but all you have to do is to approach Shaun standing next to the van and tell him you're ready to go.

You will go to Norway to the vault you visited earlier as Eivor. Layla will utter a spell to open the door and take the elevator down.

When you can control it, go forward along the only possible path. At some point you will have to go down the ramp and at the right moment jump to the platform on the other side.

Keep walking forward until you reach the water. Dive down and swim through the underwater tunnel to the other side where you can climb up and go further.

Then there is a section where you will have to do a lot of climbing and jumping over glowing elements sticking out of the walls.

Eventually you will reach the top and you can approach the ancient machine. When you walk up to it, you will be taken to the simulation where Eivor was.

Walk forward until you reach the tables and chairs floating in the air and turn around. You should see three figures in the distance. Walk towards them.

When you get close to them you will watch a long cutscene.

When it ends you will control Basim. Enter the house and step into the Animus to return to England and continue the game as Eivor.

Eivor will become the new Jarl of your clan and when the ceremony is over, you will be able to continue your adventure in England.
