Quest stages of The Vault of Braccus Rex
1. Start #1: Journal
Find Corpse of Magilla, loot Bloodstained Journal (Magilla's Journal) and read it.
We have learned that there is a secret vault in which Braccus Rex hid Source weapons long ago. It's likely that this vault has not been found by the Magisters yet, as Braccus had particularly cunning magic and trickery put it place to defend it. We must find the hidden entrance to this vault, near a beach to the north of Gratiana's shrine.
2. Start #2: Find Entrance
Find the entrance to the Dark Cavern (To Dark Cavern) and enter the cave.
We have entered a large cavern. We ought to explore it - carefully.
3. Found Map
It's optional. You will find Tattered Blueprint in the tower at the end of the Gargoyle's Maze. Check description of The Gargoyle's Maze quest for some clues how to get there.
We found the schematics of a vault. The document hints towards Soul Jars and illusions, and mentions the name Braccus Rex. We should investigate further.
4. Meet Illusionist
Talk to Trompdoy. He is inside the Dark Cavern. Come closer to the place shown in the screenshot below then he will appear.
We encountered a strange man named Trompdoy within the cavern, who mocks and threatens us.
5. Kill Illusionist
Move forward, explore the cave and locate Real Trompdoy (lvl 5) in Madman's Enclave. Kill him and loot Band of Braccus from his corpse.
On your way to the place where Real Trompdoy (lvl 5) is located, you will have to kill his illusions (Trompdoy (lvl 5)) and give correct answers to Statue of Illusions questions.
Correct answers are:
1. *Finish the sentence with 'very awful, rotten.'*
2. A hex, a misery, a blight, a curse.
We have killed Trompdoy.
6. Illusionist Revive
Move forward to the treasure vault, talk to Trompdoy and offer your help.
Trompdoy has come back to life. He seems to be trapped here, unless we destroy his Soul Jar.
7. Ending #1: Destroy Illusionist Jar
Select the appropriate option during the conversation or use the Trompdoy's Soul Jar and smash it.
*Take the jar and smash it to pieces, freeing the soul inside.*
The result should be ...
I have destroyed Trompdoy's Soul Jar. He should be at peace now.
7.1. Quest Reward
To be able to get this reward you have to agree to destroy the soul jar during the conversation.
Before he departed for the Hall of Echoes, Trompdoy thanked and rewarded us.
8. Ending #2: Absorbed Illusionist Jar
Don't agree to help Trompdoy, and during the conversation tell him ...
*Tell him he's an insufferable rat of a man and deserves his fate.*
... then use the Trompdoy's Soul Jar and absorb the soul. You can do it only if your source collar has been removed.
*Remove the lid from the jar and absorb the soul inside.*
The result should be ...
We have absorbed the contents of Trompdoy's Soul Jar. His fate is unknown.
Your character will gain a Source Point!
9. Close Left Fort Joy Trompdoy
We have left the island without helping Trompdoy - he will remain trapped in the cavern until his Soul Jar is destroyed.
10. Close Left Fort Joy Still Secret
We have left the island without finding this secret vault.
