To start the fight, enter the area marked on the map - simply approach the tree. The battle consists of three phases.
Phase #1
In this phase, you'll fight the Reed Devil one-on-one. Once you master his movement patterns and attack sequences - as well as how to parry and dodge his strikes - you shouldn't have much trouble draining his health bar to zero.
Reed Devil is capable of teleporting and unleashing a series of rapid close-range strikes, which you can parry. However, you cannot parry his special attack - when you see him charging up for a moment before lunging at you, you must dodge it. In addition to melee attacks, Reed Devil can also fire a volley of projectiles from a distance.
A successful parry will build up the gauge below Reed Devil's health bar. Once it's full, it will stagger him, leaving him open for you to land a finisher.
The fight against Reed Devil is an opportunity to learn a new skill - Swift Stab.
Phase #2 - Destroy the Reed Devil's totems.
In this phase, four totems will appear on the battlefield and they will be marked on your minimap with small orange dots. In addition to the totems, Reed Devil will create several clones of himself. You must destroy all four totems as quickly as possible while dodging the clones' attacks, as this will end the current stage and trigger the third phase.
Phase #3
Phase three resembles the first phase, with a few differences. From time to time, a second Reed Devil will appear on the battlefield.
Additionally, Reed Devil gains a new ranged attack - he will be able to fire a series of red energy waves at you that must be dodged to the side.
Deplete his health bar once more to finish the fight and complete the quest.
The Reed Devil vanished like smoke just as the final strike was about to land, leaving behind a cryptic message. A palpable frustration lingers after letting such an enemy slip through your fingers.
