The easiest way to start this quest is to buy the "Worn-out and faded notes by Hieronymus on the witcher Elgar" map from Hattori in Novigrad.

Geralt happened across a map which contained markings showing the locations of caches of old witcher diagrams. He set out to find them in hopes of improving his equipment.
