Quest Group: Chapter 2 - Horseshoe Overlook
Category: Story Mission
Prerequisites: To play this mission, you must first complete the mission Americans at Rest.
In order to start this mission you have to complete the Americans at Rest mission and then talk to Leopold Strauss. You will find him in your camp at Horseshoe Overlook.
Leopold Strauss introduces Arthur to his usury business.
Note: Completing this mission unlocks the Ledger and Camp Upgrades.
Individuals that owe the gang money are marked on the map. Seek out the debtors and recover the money. Try not to kill them.
It is up to you which of the people who borrowed money from Strauss to visit first. It could be Mr. Wróbel, Chick Matthews, or Lilly Millet. To complete the job, you just need to visit one of the debtors. You can visit the others later.
One of the debtors is an immigrant from Poland - Mr. Wróbel. You will find him in his house.
He barely understands English, so you will have to use violence so that he lets you sweep the house in search of valuable things to pay off the debt.
Search cabinets, drawers, etc until you sucessfully recover the debt. You can, for example, take antique watch, silver earring, fine brandy, etc.
Once you have collected enough items, you will be informed of this via a message on the screen and you will receive Wróbel's Valuables.
Matthews can be found on his farm located to the west of Emerald Ranch. You can ask one of the workers on the farm to tell you where he is. If you talk to Matthews first, he will lie to you about being someone else.
When you find out which one of them is Matthews, he will get on his horse and start running away.
Follow Matthews, equip your lasso, get close to him and catch him.
Matthews will give you a map that shows where he hid the money.
Open your satchel and examine the Chick's Treasure Map.
The place where the treasure is located will be marked on the map.
You'll find what you're looking for in the hole of a big tree on the hill.
You'll find Lilly at Emerald Ranch. She's sitting on a bench talking to her companion.
Approach them and talk to Lilly.
Her companion, Cooper, won't want to give you your money back, and a fistfight will start.
Beat Cooper in a fistfight.
Search Cooper and take the money. Unfortunately, somebody was watching you and thought it was a robbery.
Catch up with him, stop him in any way you want (if you do not manage to convince him verbally, knock him down and convince him by force), and convince him to be quiet.
Return to your camp and put the recovered debt in the tithing box. You will receive a cut of each recovered debt you donate to the camp funds. Before you do this, you can, but don't have to, take the debt from the other debtors (You can do it later).
Open the ledger and purchase any of the camp upgrades.
After doing so, Strauss will approach you and he'll ask you to go after one more debtor - Thomas Downes.
Strauss encourages Arthur to reclaim the outstanding debt from a farmer, Thomas Downes, who seems to have little intention of repaying it.
The timer that counts down the time during which you should deal with Downes and then return to Strauss to earn the gold medal starts when you approach the farm.
Downes should be working in the garden (at least during the day). When you get close to him, he'll try to attack you, but he will fail.
Decide whether you just want to threaten him or beat him up. Either way, you won't be able to get your debt back. Downes is seriously ill and his family is living in poverty.
Note: During the conversation, Downes will cough blood on you and, as it turns out later, infect you with his illness. This is unavoidable.
When other members of his family come from the house, the conversation will be over. They will take care of their sick father and you will get on a horse and ride back to the camp.
Arthur attempts to reclaim the debt from Thomas Downes but finds him to be destitute.
Get back to Straus as soon as you can and talk to him. The mission will be completed.
After completing this mission, you will be able to play the mission The Spines of America.
