You'll be able to start this quest soon after you get to New Sérène. To do this, just talk to Kurt, who will ask you to help him with a certain young recruit.

Go to the Coin Guard Barracks and get inside. Soldiers you meet inside, when asked about Reiner, will inform you that you should talk to the quartermaster.
And the quartermaster will inform you that the recruit you are looking for is dead because he drowned a few days ago.
Get down to the basement, where the morgue entrance is. There you'll meet a medical examiner who can give you some information about the dead man. He will claim that the cause of death was drowning.
You'll have to convince him to let you see the body.
Go to the morgue and approach the body in the middle. If you have the right talent (Science 2), you will be able to check the body thoroughly. Otherwise you will only do a rough examination.
One thing is for sure, the boy didn't drown but was beaten.
If you were only able to make a rough examination of the body then you must find evidence that confirms your suspicion of beating. Read the Preliminary autopsy result for that.
Go back to the medic and talk to him. Initially he will deny it, but eventually he will admit to falsifying the report because he was forced to do so by two lieutenants he had never seen before.
Go back to the quartermaster Manfred and tell him what you discovered. After checking the documents, he'll inform you about the strange re-assignment of the young recruit.
You'll find him on the ground floor of the barracks. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember a recruit named Reiner.
You'll find him on the second floor of the barracks. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember a recruit named Reiner either.
You'll find her on the second floor of the barracks. She doesn't know Reiner either, but if you can convince her to say something more, then you'll find out about strange cases of young recruits vanishing.
Go to the tavern and talk to the recruit there. Offer him a drink (Bottle of brandy) and ask him about Reiner. He'll tell you about the strange behavior of their regiment lieutenant and Reiner's disappearance.
You can buy Bottle of brandy from the innkeeper.
Return to the 11th regiment lieutenant. He'll be a little more talkative this time. If you came to him during the day, he'll ask you to come back when it gets dark.
When you return to him when it gets dark, he will tell you about the mysterious ghost regiment and that the lieutenant of the sixth regiment should know more about it.
Go to the lieutenant of the 6th regiment and ask him about the ghost regiment. At first he will deny that he knows something about it, but eventually, when you convince him, he will mention the camp somewhere out of town where the soldiers of this regiment are trained.
This will end this quest and next one - Amongst the ghosts, will automatically start. Your reputation with Kurt will rise (+3).
