Quest Group: East Anglia / The Tale of Thegn Oswald
Prerequisites: To play this quest, you must first complete the quest Raising Iron.
This quest will appear in your journal when you manage to gain allies to attack Rued's fortress, that is after completing the "Raising Iron" quest.
Rued's clan has taken refuge in Burgh Castle. Eivor has a bold plan to crack their defenses.
Go to the camp and when you are ready to go into battle inform Finnr about it.
Sail towards the quest marker. When you get close enough, the Eivor will set fire to the explosives and jump out of the boat.
After a while, a powerful explosion will cause a huge breach in the walls through which you will be able to get inside the fortress.
You can focus on killing the enemies and wait for the ram to smash the first barrier and then the gate,...
...but you can also approach the ram and assist in using it.
Use the light ram to break through blockades and gates.
To deal the most damage, draw the light ram back with your crew and charge.
After breaking through the first gate, you will have to destroy the next one. Again, you can assist in battering or focus on killing enemies...
...for example, those firing at you from the top of the walls.
When the second gate is destroyed and you run into the inner courtyard you will discover that Rued and Oswald survived the fall and Oswald is a prisoner of Rued.
Rued will be waiting for you on the upper platform. You can first kill his soldiers who are standing in your way or you can try to bypass them and quickly climb the palisade to the upper platform.
Rued will not be alone, he will be accompanied by his wolf. Try to get rid of the wolf first.
Rued will fight with a two-handed sword. From time to time he will set it on fire to inflict additional fire damage on you. He can also attack you from a distance by throwing a burning weapon at you. Rued can also heal himself. If you notice that he will kneel and the white aura surrounds him, quickly attack him to stop the healing process.
When you finally beat him you will be able to decide whether to kill him or leave him alive. Oswald will suggest that you spare him. What you do will determine the events in the next quest - "Wedding Horns". If you leave him alive, he will be captured and imprisoned by Oswald's soldiers.
To complete this quest, talk to Oswald. It is time for the wedding.
After completing this quest, you will be able to play the quest Wedding Horns.
