Quest Group: Mythic Tales
Location: Izuhara
To unlock this quest you may need to do some initial main tales, but not many. However, keep in mind that a duel at the end of this tale will not be easy unless you develop your character a bit. You should be able to find the musician sitting next to the road near Komatsu Forge relatively quickly. Several bodies will be lying around him.
Was that a musician I heard? He could be in trouble.
When you talk to the musician, he'll tell you about the murderer who demanded that he tell him a story about Shigenori's Heavenly Strike. After hearing the story, the man went crazy and killed everyone around. One woman managed to escape and ran towards a nearby bridge.
I found a musician surrounded by bodies - the victims of a warrior seeking to learn Shigenori's Heavenly Strike, a katana technique that would be disastrous in the wrong hands... if it even exists.
I need to find this murderous warrior - and stop him.
Go towards the bridge and find the weeping woman who's hiding under the bridge. She will tell you that the murderer's name is Yasuhira Koga.
On the road near the bridge, find the traces of Yasuhira's horse...
...and follow them until you get to the Mongol-controlled post. Come closer and kill all the Mongols who stand in your way.
When you get rid of all enemies, talk to one of the villagers and he will tell you that Yasuhira was in the camp but has already left it. He'll also tell you that his quarters were in the watchtower. Enter the tower and examine the traces you will find there: the Mongolian version of the Shigenori's tale, white leaves...
...and a painting depicting a dueling ring. When you examine all the clues, talk to the woman and tell her what you've discovered and she will give another tip to continue your search.
Note: You can skip this objective, ride around the hill and go directly to the White Tree Grove.
But if you climb the hill from where you can look around, you'll also complete the Plum Blossom Shrine. Getting to the top of the hill will require you to climb a bit, jump over tree branches, etc.
From the top you'll see where the white tree grove is.
When you get to the white tree grove, you'll find a small farm there and hear a calling for help coming from there. The farm will, of course, be controlled by a group of Mongols. In order to rescue the hostage, who is inside the house, you will have to defeat all of the Mongols around. This time you don't have to worry about the Mongols slaughtering their prisoner if you alert them.
The released man will tell you that Yasuhira wanted his grandfather to pass on the knowledge about the Shigenori's Heavenly Strike to him and that they went to the dueling ring to do so.
The weather will change, it will get stormy. Head to the Shigenori's Rest. The dueling ring is a rocky "island" that was once accessible via a wooden bridge that is now destroyed. However, somebody cut down one of the trees that can serve as a temporary bridge. Go over it to the other side and squeeze through the gap in the rocks.
Yasuhira came here with the Mongols and you must get rid of them first. Almost everyone stands back to you, so the best way is to assassinate them one by one.
When all the Mongols are dead, go ahead and find the dueling ring. Examine the corpse of the man, the sword stuck in the ground and the footprints, and then Yasuhira will arrive.
After a while, the duel will begin. When Yasuhira Koga is close to death, the game will prompt you to use a new ability - The Heavenly Strike. Use it and then Yasuhira will be hit by a lightning and die.
To complete this tale, approach the dead master and bury him.
One of the rewards you will receive will be a new look for your sword - Heavenly Falcon.
