The following legend of The Dark Place interactive game map defines the points of interest / markers displayed on the map. Each marker corresponds to a specific element to facilitate efficient navigation and interaction with the map.
Night Springs - Commercial
Maps are usually posted on boards which you can find shortly after entering a new area. Maps of some locations can be found in a couple of places, you just need to find any one of them. There are also "supplementary" maps that cause additional interesting points, etc. to be added to the maps you already have.
Oceanview Hotel Map
Chapter: Initiation 5: Room 665. This map hangs on the wall in the reception room located on the first floor.
Oceanview Hotel Map Upgrade
Chapter: Initiation 5: Room 665. The map will indicate where to find Words of Power and Sheriff's Supplies located on the hotel premises.

The Dark Place Map Upgrade
Chapter: Initiation 2: Casey. The map will mark where you can find the Words of Power and the Sheriff's Supplies located in the base area of the Dark Place.
The Dark Place Upgrade (Alley)
Chapter: Initiation 5: Room 665. The map will mark where you can find the Words of Power and the Sheriff's Supplies located on rooftops near the Alley.

Chapter: Initiation 1: Late Night. This map can be found hanging on the wall in the hallway just past the cafeteria.

These are vintage suitcases that hold more supplies than regular containers. The places where you can find them will be marked on your maps when you interact with the map upgrades you find in Sheriff Tim Breaker's hideouts.
Echoes consist of two spheres - light and dark. To activate a certain echo you have to stand in such a place that both spheres line up and the dark sphere obscures the light one.

The Dark Place
Chapter: Initiation 2: Casey. You will be able to reach this place when you carry the light from Light Shift #4 to Light Shift #6 and thus unblock the stairs.
The Janitor's Buckets are used to switch between Saga and Alan. This will become possible after completing chapter "Initiation 2: Casey" and returning to the Elderwood Palace Lodge in Bright Falls.
Closed passages such as doors, gates, etc., to open which you generally need to find some key, code or use a tool. Sometimes it is enough to approach them from the right side and sometimes you need to make the necessary progress in the game's storyline.
Various types of containers, for example, cabinets, drawers, tool boxes, crates, and the like in which you can find supplies. What you find inside is largely random or depends on what weapons you have, what you are missing, etc. Sometimes they can be empty.
