Paintings are one of the secrets you will encounter in Elden Ring. Each painting that you find depicts some place located somewhere in the game world. When you manage to find the place depicted in the painting, you will meet a ghost there. When you get close to it, it will disappear, but it will leave behind an item as a reward for solving the puzzle.
Note: To see a ghost in a given place, you must first find and examine the painting that depicts that place.
Below is a list of all the places where the paintings are located, there are seven of them in total, and the places you have to go to in order to complete the mysteries.

"Domain of Dragons" PaintingYou can reach this room by going down two ladders: Shadow Keep Ladder #1 and Shadow Keep Ladder #2. Once you interact with this painting, you will be able to find and collect the Rock Heart.
"Incursion" PaintingOnce you interact with this painting, you will be able to find and collect the Serpent Crest Shield.
"The Sacred Tower" PaintingThis painting is inside a small cave that can be accessed from the west. To get here start at the Scorched Ruins site of grace. Once you interact with this painting and dispell the shadow from the Spiral Tower, you will be able to find and collect the Spiraltree Seal.
"Champion's Song" Painting (Solution)Visit this place after you find and interact with the "Champion's Song" Painting. Reward: Harp Bow.
"Flightless Bird" Painting (Solution)Visit this place after you find and interact with the "Flightless Bird" Painting. Reward: Fire's Deadly Sin.
"Homing Instinct" Painting (Solution)Visit this place after you find and interact with the "Homing Instinct" Painting. Reward: Incantation Scarab (Head).
"Prophecy" Painting (Solution)Visit this place after you find and interact with the "Prophecy" Painting. Reward: Warhawk Ashes.
"Redmane" Painting (Solution)You will get here from the cliff above by jumping over the roots. Visit this place after you find and interact with the "Redmane" Painting. Reward: Ash of War: Rain of Arrows.
"Resurrection" Painting (Solution)Visit this place after you find and interact with the "Resurrection" Painting. Rewards: Juvenile Scholar Set, Larval Tear.
