You can start this quest by reading the notice posted on the Rannvaig Notice Board or by talking directly to Lothar.
In Skellige Geralt met a desperate and broken man named Lothar. Someone had cast a powerful curse on his son, causing him to slip closer and closer towards the grave with each passing day. The witcher knew he had to lift the curse before it was too late.

You will find Lothar near his house where he prays for his son's health. He will tell you about the curse that an unknown person has cast on his son. There are two ways to lift this curse. It must be done willingly by the person who cast it, or the curse can be redirected to that person but you need to know her or his name first.
Approatch the Nithing and examine the footprints left on the ground, most likely by the person who cast the curse.
Follow the tracks and after a while you will reach the tree with a woman's shawl hanging on it.
Follow the scent and it will lead you to the village of Rannvaig. Near the signpost you'll lose track, and you'll have to ask people if they know the shawl owner. One of the women will tell you that the shawl belongs to Jonna, the local herbalist.
Talk to Jonna and you'll find out that the curse is revenge for the humiliation she suffered when Lothar left her and married another woman. She will tell you that she will only withdraw the curse if Lothar renounces his wife and son and returns to her.
Go back to Lothar. When you tell him what Jonna told you, he'll ask you to kill her. You'll have two possible answers to his request.
If you didn't agree to kill Jonna, the quest will end here.
The witcher discovered the curse had been cast by the local herbalist, Jonna, with whom Lothar had once shared his bed. Once again it was proven - something which I, dear reader, know all too well - that man knows no greater enemy than a woman scorned. Geralt managed to convince Lothar to return to his one-time love. He had to abandon his beloved son, but in doing so he saved the boy's life.
If you decided that Jonna should be punished for what she did, then approach the Nithing and carve Jonna's name into it. It'll kill Jonna and you won't meet her in the village again. Then go back to Lothar, who will thank you for saving his son and give you 60 crowns.
