Quest Group: Witcher Contracts
Suggested level: 28
Location: Skellige
The easiest way to start this quest is to read the contract posted on the Fyresdal Notice Board. You can also talk directly to Vagn.
Geralt caught word that the villagers of Fyresdal had caught sight of a dragon. Though the witcher codex barred him from killing these noble and intelligent creatures, he decided to investigate the matter all the same.
You need to talk to Vagn. You will find him in the village next to one of the houses. He will tell you about two boys who were killed by a dragon and ask you to kill the beast. You will be able to bargain with him about the amount of money - 273+ crowns.
Go to the house where the boys' corpses are kept and talk to their mother - Karli. She will tell you where their bodies were found and allow you to examine their corpses.
Examine the boys' bodies. You will find marks of claws and bites but no fire damage. This type of damage is characteristic for dragon attack.
Go north of the village where near the crossroads you will find the carcass of a dead cow. Examine it.
Then examine the traces of blood on a nearby rock.
Follow the traces of blood towards the old, destroyed siege machine. Nearby it, you will find the remains of a dog, another victim of the "dragon".
At the top of the tower you will notice a nest and come to the conclusion that you do not have to deal with a dragon but with a forktail.
His investigation uncovered that what the Fyresdal residents had seen was not a dragon but a forktail - a beast that, while undoubtedly dangerous, has about as much in common with a dragon as do dragonflies. Geralt tracked down the monster's nest (which it had made in an abandoned siege tower), but the forktail itself was nowhere to be found. Geralt decided that, rather than wait for the beast to return, he would lure it back home using bait.
Go back to Vagn and tell him you need the bait. He will give you a sheep.
The village elder honored Geralt that day with the gift of a lamb - though the animal he gave was certainly not the choicest member of the flock. From what Geralt later told me, the poor creature looked like a furry water hag and had an even worse temperament.
You must lead the sheep close to the destroyed siege machine. When you do that, a "dragon" will arrive.
Kill the beast and take the Forktail Trophy (5% Bonus experience from monsters) and Dancer (relic steel sword).
Return to Vagn and inform him about the completion of the task. If you lie that it was a dragon, he will give you a full reward.
Geralt defeated the monster and returned to collect his reward. Not wanting to take from the villagers their story about the dragon (which had already made them the envy of all the isles) Geralt decided to hide the true identity of the beast he had slain.
But if you tell him the truth, he will only pay half of the amount.
Geralt defeated the monster and returned to the village to collect his reward. This turned out to be smaller than first offered - having learned that the beast was no dragon but a much less dangerous forktail, the village elder decided the witcher's honorarium should likewise be proportionately smaller. This was not the first time honesty had lightened the witcher's purse.
