Quest Group: Witcher Contracts
Suggested level: 15
Location: Novigrad
This quest can be started by reading the "Contract Issued by the Temple Guard of the City of Novigrad" notice posted on the Harborside Notice Board.
Geralt spied something on the city notice board that intrigued him. It seemed keeping the peace in Novigrad was not the city guard's only problem.
Talk to the guard you find near the fish market and he will tell you about the mysterious death of a few soldiers. You can haggle with him about the amount of money you will receive after completing the job (249+ crowns). For more information, he will direct you to a doctor who has had the opportunity to examine the bodies of the dead.
During a conversation with a certain guardsman, Geralt learned that members of the city watch had been disappearing under murky circumstances. He accepted the task of looking into the matter.
The doctor will give you more information about the dead. He will also state that he doubts that the soldiers were attacked by some kind of a monster.
Go to the crime scene and examine the traces of horseshoes you find there. You will notice that they were left by a two-leged creature.
Follow the tracks and they'll lead you to the back of the Crippled Kate's brothel.
The clues Geralt found led him to a house of ill-repute. As is often the case in such establishments, more than lovemaking was taking place within its walls...
Go inside and talk to the owner of this place. If you use Delusion (2), she will tell you about the succubus that helps her and give you the key to the house where she lives. Otherwise, you'll have to look for clues on your own.
If you didn't find out about the succubus, go back to the back of the brothel and examine the empty perfume vial lying there.
Follow the scent and it will lead you to a house next to which a man who is acting strangely stands. Talk to him and you'll find out he's under the influence of a succubus. The front door of the house next to which the man is standing is closed, so you have to find another way to get inside.
Enter the neighboring house, climb the top floor and then climb the ladder.
Go over the footbridge to the house you want to get to, and climb the ladder to the attic.
You'll meet a succubus, Salma, in the house. You'll have two options. You can kill her and take the succubus trophy from her corpse. Or you can listen to her and then tell her to leave Novigrad. In the second case, she'll give you a relic silver sword - Maugrim and also a succubus trophy which you can use to convince the guard that you got rid of her.
Go back to the guard, tell him who killed the soldiers and collect your reward.
If you decided to spare succubus' life:
After talking to the succubus, Geralt decided to spare its life. When he told me this, I was at first outraged, but then he explained the arguments the succubus had given him and convinced me the guards she had killed had earned their fate.
If you killed Salma:
Geralt tracked down the succubus. They had a brief conversation, during which the succubus tried to justify herself by providing motives for her murders. Geralt remained unmoved and the succubus met with due punishment for her crimes.
