Hunting a Witch Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Quest

Suggested level: 5

Group: Main Quests

Location: Velen

You will receive this quest automatically when you complete The Nilfgaardian Connection quest.

The notes left by Hendrik, the Nilfgaardian agent, mentioned that Ciri had quarreled with some witch, and that the newt-stewer in question could be found near the village of Midcopse. Exactly where, Geralt did not know - and so he was forced to swallow his manly pride and ask the locals for directions.

Quest stages of Hunting a Witch

1. Find the witch on your own or ask the residents of Midcopse about her.

There are several ways to find out how to reach the witch:

You can talk to an old man sitting on a barrel by a tree to the west of the village and he will tell you how to get to the witch's hut.

Find the witch on your own or ask the residents of Midcopse about her.

1.1. (Optional) Eavesdrop on the gossiping women.

You can eavesdrop on the conversation of some women standing around the campfire by one of the huts in the village who are talking about a witch. Keep your distance from the gossiping ladies, so they don't see you eavesdropping.

(Optional) Eavesdrop on the gossiping women.

1.2. (Optional) Talk to the peasant who visits the witch often.

You can talk to an old woman cleaning in front of one of the houses in the village. Then she will tell you to talk to her husband, who recently visited the witch.

(Optional) Talk to the peasant who visits the witch often.

You'll find her husband in the yard next to the house. He will not want to say anything and to convince him you will have to give him some money (50 coins) or use delusion (1).

(Optional) Talk to the peasant who visits the witch often.

2. Find the pond by the village. / Find the lone boulder. / Find the abandoned cart. / Find the witch's hut.

The pond is located northeast of the village. A large stone is located north of it. Then follow the path leading to the east and you will reach an abandoned cart guarded by several neckers. A little further you should notice the Witch's Hut and the witch herself talking to some of the villagers who came to her asking for help. The witch will tell them what to do and then she will enter her hut.

Find the pond by the village. / Find the lone boulder. / Find the abandoned cart. / Find the witch's hut.

The peasants of Midcopse were not overly talkative, but in the end Geralt managed to get enough hints out of them to find the witch's hut.

3. Talk to the witch in her hut. / Search the hut using your Witcher Senses.

Get in the hut. The witch has disappeared somewhere. You can examine a few objects, but you just need to examine the skull lying on the shelf. When you do that, a magic portal will open.

Talk to the witch in her hut. / Search the hut using your Witcher Senses.

4. Enter the portal in the witch's hut. / Find the witch.

Walk into the portal and you will be transported to an underground cavern. Approach the building in the center of the cavern.

The witch is an old friend of Geralt - the sorceress Keira Metz, who is hiding in Velen. She doesn't know where Ciri is currently staying, but she knows someone who might know more - a mysterious elf mage wearing a mask. She can lead you to him.

You can go to the place where the elf mage is staying right away, together with Keira, or you can go there yourself, a little later.

Enter the portal in the witch's hut. / Find the witch.

Unfortunately, Keira had not actually encountered Ciri, and the witch mentioned in Hendrik's notes was nowhere to be found. Geralt's efforts were not entirely in vain, however. The sorceress had recently entertained an unexpected guest - a masked elven mage. This mysterious visitor was, like Geralt, interested in Ciri's whereabouts. Keira figured the mage would be where she had left him and set off with Geralt towards his hideout.

After completing Hunting a Witch you will get or will be able to get Wandering in the Dark.
