Ghosts of the Past Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Quest

Suggested level: 6

Group: Secondary Quests

Location: Velen

If Letho is alive, which you could have decided in the "Imperial Audience" quest, then when you visit the Reardon Manor in Velen, you will receive this quest. You will visit this place during the "The Fall of the House of Reardon" quest.

While traversing the inhospitable lands of Velen, Geralt came across an abandoned farming estate. Upon entering the estate's farmhouse, he discovered that, though seemingly uninhabited, it was crammed full of deadly traps. Someone clearly did not want any uninvited guests snooping around the place. Geralt decided to find out who - and why.

What does one expect to find inside an abandoned country manor? Dusty crockery. Moth-eaten doilies. A moldy trophy buck, perhaps, if its inhabitants trod on the wild side. Certainly not the most wanted man north or south of the Yaruga. Yet that, dear reader, is exactly who Geralt found when he entered such a manor in Lindenvale. The assassin of kings himself, Geralt's old acquaintance, his sometime friend and sometime enemy: Letho. He was hiding there from bounty hunters out for his scalp. Geralt, now fully able to remember how Letho and two of his colleagues once saved Yennefer's life, could not refuse him help.

3. Kill the bounty hunters.

No matter what you say, you'll still have to help Letho eliminate all the headhunters (6,7). Jump down and do it.

Kill the bounty hunters.

After the fight, Letho will tell you he wants to deal with Louis who betrayed him. You can go with him or stay out of it.

If you won't follow him or if you stray too far, the quest will complete and you'll never see him again.

Somewhere along the way Geralt parted with Letho. To this day no one knows if he did this on purpose or merely got lost, but one thing is certain - the two witchers' paths never crossed again.

4. Ride with Letho and find Louis. / Kill the bandits.

Follow Letho until you get to the abandoned site, where you'll meet Louis (9) and a few of his companions (6). You'll talk about what happened for a while, and after a while the fight will begin.

5. Ride with Letho to Lindenvale. / Accompany Letho around Lindenvale.

Go with Letho to Lindenvale. When you get to the house where Vester and his men are staying, Letho will tell you not to interfere and he will go to meet them. While they're talking, one of Vester's men won't stand up and shoot Letho with a crossbow. The fight will start, Letho will kill a few bandits and then he will fall.

6. Deal with Vester and his men.

Geralt will run to Vester. You'll have to decide what to do next - intervene or stay out of trouble.

  • You're good as dead. - The fight will begin and you will have to kill Vester and the rest of his men.
  • Don't want trouble. - Vester will want to cut off Letho's head. You can suggest him not to do that just take his medallion (His medalion's all you need.), or kill them.

When you get rid of Vester's men, Geralt will examine Letho's body and detect the scent of Zanguebarian venom. A few hours later, Letho will wake up and explain his plan to you. He bribed an arbalist to shoot him with a poisoned arrow so he could fake his death.

Deal with Vester and his men.

Letho will thank you for not letting them cut off his head and then decide to hide somewhere. You may suggest that he should go to Kaer Morhen. If you do that, he will help you defend the castle in a later quest.

If you convinced Vester to take Letho's medallion:

What Letho did next proved he was both clever and fearless. In order to get rid of the bounty hunters breathing down his neck once and for all, he took a crossbow bolt to the chest and faked his own death. This caught Geralt by surprise, but he improvised splendidly. Convinced Letho was dead, Vester and his men rode off to spread the news far and wide. Letho could now simply lie low for a spell and wait for the world to forget about him...

If you killed Vester and his men:

What Letho did next proved he was both clever and fearless. In order to get rid of the bounty hunters breathing down his neck once and for all, he took a crossbow bolt to the chest and faked his own death. This caught Geralt by surprise, and sadly the witcher doesn't always handle surprises with much tact or subtlety. Instead, he usually does what he did this time, namely murder all and sundry within sword's reach. There were thus no witnesses to spread the false news of Letho's death, and the wanted man was right back where he started.

If you offered Letho to seek shelter in Kaer Morhen:

Geralt proposed that his old acquaintance seek shelter at Kaer Morhen. Letho hesitated, but in the end accepted the offer.

Deal with Vester and his men.
