In The Alters, Anomalies are translucent, gaseous, or spatial distortions found across the planet's surface. They vary in type and behavior, appearing as floating wisps, pulsating orbs, or areas of warped reality. Each type has unique characteristics and effects, for example physical damage or time dilation. They become more frequent and complex as the game progresses through its acts. Anomalies often block paths to resources or key areas. Most anomalies can be destroyed using the Luminator, a flashlight-like tool crafted in Act 1 through the "Strange Phenomena" quest. Destroying all cores eliminates the anomaly, dropping ALX, a resource convertible to Organics, Metals, or Minerals in the Refinery.
Types of Anomalies
- Static Anomaly - Common, stationary, teardrop-shaped spheres that irradiate Jan upon contact. Easy to avoid but can form walls in groups.
- Following Anomaly - Moves slowly toward Jan, with fast-moving cores. They deal significant radiation damage if they reach you.
- Pulsating Anomaly - Expands and contracts rhythmically, with two cores. Causes heavy radiation damage if caught during expansion.
- Time Anomaly - Large areas with floating particles that speed up time, especially near the center. Not directly harmful but disrupts time-sensitive tasks.
- Prism Anomaly - Distorts vision with multiple cores (usually three), causing disorientation. Often contains other anomalies.
