Each weapon has multiple types of ammunition that you can find in the world or take in your Loadout. Each has specific strengths and weaknesses.

Subsonic rounds have low stopping power, but are extremely quiet.
Armour Piercing rounds have a greater ability to penetrate armour, metal, and stone. It is the only way to damage some hardened equipment such as padlocks.
Non-Lethal Wooden-Wax rounds will knock enemies unconscious.
Match-Grade rounds are accurate over long distances, and affected less by Bullet Drop.
Soft Point rounds are more damaging, with Rifle Soft Point rounds also capable of causing Bleeding Wounds.
High Explosive rounds explode on impact to deal damage to nearby enemies, but are extremely loud.
