Prerequisites: To play this mission, you must first complete the mission The Best of Women.
You will be able to carry out this mission after Abigail and Jack arrive at the ranch built by John. To start it head inside your house and talk to Abigail.
Soon after that, Sadie Adler arrives at the ranch, and she has another job offer for John. Abigail is not happy about this, but eventually agrees that John will help Sadie.
Sadie visits John at Beecher's hope. They leave to hunt down a bounty, Marshall Thurwell, in Tall Trees and discuss other men who have evaded their capture.
On the way to the target, John will tell Sadie that he wants to marry Abigail officially. He wants to give her the ring he received from Arthur.
Riding through the woods, you'll find an abandoned camp. Sadie will investigate the camp and find out which way you should go.
Keep up with Sadie. However, she will soon lose the trail.
Activate Eagle Eye and find the tracks.
Then follow the tracks east to a small cabin in the woods.
You'll find the corpse of a massacred man in front of the cabin but this is not the guy you are looking for.
Marshall Thurwell is hiding inside the cabin. He will not resist the arrest, he will only mention "a monster".
You will soon find out what he was talking about. You will be attacked by a huge bear.
Dead Eye will be activated automatically. Shoot the bear four times as it charges you and you will complete one of the gold medal requirements.
The bear will knock you down.Mash the button to free yourself from the bear.
When you get a chance to shoot a bear, do it.
Eventually, Sadie will come to your aid and the bear will flee into the forest.
Sadie will make sure Thurwell doesn't disturb the transportation, John will load him on her horse and you'll be on your way back to Blackwater. Further down the road, two men will block your path. They say they want to split the bounty with the two of you.
Activate Dead Eye and headshot both of them as soon as possible. This way, you'll fulfil another requirement to get the gold medal.
After getting rid of the bounty hunters, follow Sadie to Blackwater. Sadie will promise you that if she finds out anything about Micah, she'll let you know. When you get to the sheriff's office, John will help Sadie unload unconscious Thurwell and the mission will end.
After completing this mission, you will be able to play the mission A New Future Imagined.
