Open Sesame: Breaking and Entering Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Quest

Suggested level: 34

Group: Main Quests (Hearts of Stone)

Location: Novigrad

This is one of the supporting quests you need to complete in order to prepare for a vault break-in in the "Open Sesame!" quest.

Robbing a building requires, at a bare minimum, finding a way inside it. The mysterious man who convinced Geralt to take part in the heist determined the only way to break into the carefully guarded auction house was via an adjacent tower. Geralt thus needed to hire someone capable of climbing up its glass-smooth outer wall and dropping a line down to the others. Only two maestros of the burglar's trade could perform such a feat: Hugo Hoff, affectionately known as "Beef Patty," and Eveline Gallo, alias "the Ermine."

Quest stages of Open Sesame: Breaking and Entering

1. Go to the house where Hugo Hoff is hiding.

Note: While you'll only be able to recruit Eveline, this part is optional so you can skip it and proceed straight to the circus encampment.

Go to the house in Oxenfurt where Hoff should be hiding and knock on the door. Nobody will open the door and then you will notice traces of blood.

Examine the footprints of bare feet on the ground.

1.2. Follow the tracks using your Witcher Senses. / Defeat the bandits.

Follow the tracks to a nearby river, where you will come across three thugs (33). When they spot you, they will attack you and you will have to kill them.

1.3. Search the riverbank for clues using your Witcher Senses.

In the corpse of one of the bandits you will find Hugo Hoff's ear and a Soaked letter. Read it.

Hymke,

Round up the lads, we've got a job. It's time Hugo Hoff took a long walk of a short pier on the Pontar. To prove it's done, bring back his ear.

– Falk

P.S. Seems Ewald's interested in Hoff, too. So watch your arse.

1.4. Search the bottom of the river for Hugo Hoff's body. / Return to shore.

Dive in and find Hugo's corpse. Then return to shore.

Unfortunately, Hugo Hoff was unable to join the witcher's crew. The reason was a common one in criminal circles – someone had fitted him with a stone necktie and tossed him in a deep stretch of the Pontar. The halfling had learned the hard way that, all too often, crime does not pay.

2. Convince Eveline Gallo to participate in the robbery.

Go to the circus encampment, located to the northwest of Carsten and talk to Eveline who is arguing with Meryn.

Convince Eveline Gallo to participate in the robbery.

In order for Eveline to accept your job offer you must first help her circus with financial troubles. You can do this in two ways:

  1. You can pay the refunds. It will cost you 400 crowns (if you asked Evelin to talk to you privately) or 600 crowns (if Meryn participates in the conversation).
  2. You can help the circus with their performance, which consists on shooting apples held by Meryn.

2.1. (Optional) Shoot the apples with your crossbow.

Yuo should shoot four apples held by Meryn, or you can shoot the elf himself for a quick end (you won't kill him but he'll be angry with you).

(Optional) Shoot the apples with your crossbow.

At the end you will tell Eveline to go to the herbalist's hut and this quest will end.

In the end, Geralt recruited Eveline Gallo to join the heist. This was not a very difficult task – he had the impression the performer was just waiting for an excuse to escape from the circus tent for a moment and once again savor the taste of a true adventure.
