Blood on the Battlefield Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Quest

Suggested level: 20

Group: Main Quests

Location: Kaer Morhen

This quest will start automatically when "The Battle of Kaer Morhen" quest is completed. At the end of Vesemir's funeral, Avallac'h will say that you have to discuss what to do next.

Ciri's explosion of power had frightened everyone, her most of all. Clearly these uncontrolled outbursts could not be allowed to happen again, and so when the sorceresses departed for Novigrad to gather the Lodge, Ciri, Geralt and Avallac'h remained at Kaer Morhen for a few more days. The Sage hoped to teach Ciri a few tricks for controlling her power.

Note: The decisions you make during this quest will affect the ending of the game.

Prior quests

To begin Blood on the Battlefield you must first complete The Battle of Kaer Morhen.

Quest stages of Blood on the Battlefield

1. Talk to Avallac'h about what to do next. / Return to Ciri when you're ready to hit the road.

If you feel like it, talk to the friends who came to the funeral and hear what they think about the situation and what they are planning. Then head down the hill where Yennefer, Triss, Ciri, and Avallac'h are talking about what should be done next. Ciri will be very unhappy that decisions that concern her are made without asking her for her opinion.

Eventually the decision will be made that you, Ciri and Avallac'h will stay in the castle for a few more days and Yennefer and Triss will go to Novigrad to start looking for the sorceress of the lodge.

Talk to Avallac'h about what to do next. / Return to Ciri when you're ready to hit the road.

A few days will pass, Ciri still will not be able to forget what happened and you will have to help her somehow. This is the first decision you will make that will affect Ciri's fate and the ending of the game. During a conversation with Ciri, when asked by her how you're dealing with similar situations, you'll get two options (you will have limited time to make a decision):

Talk to Avallac'h about what to do next. / Return to Ciri when you're ready to hit the road.

  • Relax. You don't have to be good at everything. - This choice will push you towards the "negative" ending of the game. You and Ciri will spend the evening talking and drinking booze. Unfortunately, this method will not work.
  • Think I know what might lift your spirits. - This choice will push you towards the "positive" ending of the game. You and Ciri will spend the next few minutes playing with snowballs, which will allow her to relax and forget about the recent events.

If you spent the evening drinking something stronger:

Talk to Avallac'h about what to do next. / Return to Ciri when you're ready to hit the road.

Sad to say, in the beginning her training was not progressing as hoped. Ciri had trouble focusing - rage and resignation would overwhelm her in turns. Though he desperately wanted to, Geralt did not know how to help her. The only idea that came to mind was to offer her some honest conversation over a few hearty glasses of something strong.

1.1. Defeat Ciri in a snowball fight. 0/8 / Don't let the snowballs hit you. 0/8 / Make more snowballs.

If you selected "Think I know what might lift your spirits. " then you'll start throwing snowballs at yourself. Whether you win or lose doesn't matter. It's just about having fun and making Ciri feel better.

Defeat Ciri in a snowball fight. 0/8 / Don't let the snowballs hit you. 0/8 / Make more snowballs.

Sad to say, in the beginning her training was not progressing as hoped. Ciri had trouble focusing - rage and resignation would overwhelm her in turns. Geralt, the wily old wolf, knew how to deal with this. Instead of hitting her over the head with some dry motivational lecture, he decided to resort to less conventional measures and... started a snowball fight. Pure genius! And what fun! Ah, how I would have loved to have been there... But no matter, the important thing is this moment of carefree respite worked wonders on Ciri - her discouragement slackened and she returned to her training with newfound verve.

The next day, Ciri will wake you up and inform you that Imlerith will take part in the Sabbath that takes place at the Bald Mountain and that she wants to go there to avenge Vesemir. Geralt will agree to help her.

Talk to Avallac'h about what to do next. / Return to Ciri when you're ready to hit the road.

The next morning Ciri woke Geralt before dawn. She was wide-awake, a look of intense excitement on her face and urgency in her voice. What had brought her to this state? The prospect of revenge - she knew Imlerith would soon be attending a witches' sabbath on Bald Mountain. That would be their chance.

Before you leave Kaer Morhen, you can tell Ciri that her father wants to see her - "Gotta visit the emperor first.". Then Ciri will ask you for advice on whether or not she should go to Vizima. Ciri will do what you advise her to do.

  • Yeah, you should. - On your way to the Bald Mountain, you will visit Vizima to talk to the Emperor, where you will be able to make another decision affecting the ending of the game.
  • Wouldn't if I were you. - You won't visit Vizima. Ciri won't become an empress, just a witcher.
  • Gotta make your own decision. - Ciri will insist that you make the decision.

If you advised Ciri to visit her father, then on your way to the Bald Mountain you will make a detour to Vizima for an audience.

Yet Geralt felt they needed to take care of other matters first. He had promised the emperor he would bring Ciri to see him, and intended to keep his word. Ciri and Geralt thus made a detour to Vizima.

During the audience, the Emperor will want to pay you the promised coin. Whether you accept the payment or refuse, it is another important decision that will affect the end of the game.

Talk to Avallac'h about what to do next. / Return to Ciri when you're ready to hit the road.

  • Thanks. Definitely need it more then you. - You will receive 2000 crowns. This choice will push you towards the "negative" ending of the game because Ciri will start to wonder if money wasn't the reason you saved her.
  • Didn't do this for the coin. - This choice will push you towards the "positive" ending because that way you'll prove to Ciri that all you did was for her. Emhyr will appreciate your gesture and you will get a new black horse from him.

If you refused to accept payment:

We had all long known Emhyr was an ingeniously ice-blooded negotiator, but this time his cold cunning plumbed new depths. While Ciri watched in horror, he offered to pay Geralt a reward for finding her, as though she were a lost goat or a runaway slave. Luckily Geralt, his hair bristling and with a low but thundering growl, told the emperor exactly where he could stick his filthy lucre.

If you took the money:

We had all long known Emhyr was an ingeniously ice-blooded negotiator, but this time his cold cunning plumbed new depths. While Ciri watched in horror, he offered to pay Geralt his reward for finding her, as though she were a lost goat or a runaway slave. Making matters worse, Geralt displayed a complete lack of empathy and accepted the emperor's gold. Rage and a profound disappointment filled Ciri's breast - and, indeed, who could blame her?

Then you will go to another room so that Ciri and the Emperor can talk to each other in private. There you will meet General Voorhis with whom you will exchange a few words. When Ciri has finished talking to her father, he will join you and you will continue your journey to the Bald Mountain.

Leaving the safety of protective walls behind them, Geralt and Ciri ventured to Bald Mountain to exact their revenge on Imlerith.

After completing Blood on the Battlefield you will get or will be able to get Bald Mountain.
