A Midnight Clear Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Quest

Suggested level: 33

Group: Secondary Quests (Hearts of Stone)

Location: Novigrad

You will receive this quest when you get rid of Vlodimir at the end of the "Dead Man's Party" quest. You should complete it before you leave the village where the wedding takes place, otherwise this quest will fail.

Though Vlodimir had returned to the nether realms, the night was still young and the wedding not yet over. Shani, dejected at the thought that Geralt would soon return to his many pressing concerns, was sitting alone at one of the tables, staring glumly at the crowd of merrymakers. Master Mirror advised Geralt that a bouquet of flowers or some tasty liqueur might cheer her up.

Prior quests

To begin A Midnight Clear you must first complete Dead Man's Party.

Quest stages of A Midnight Clear

1. Read Shani's Character entry in the Journal to find out what might cheer her up.

Read Shani's journal entry to learn that she loves rowan.

Read Shani's Character entry in the Journal to find out what might cheer her up.

2. Use your Witcher Senses to find something that will cheer Shani up.

What kind of gift you bring to Shani has a certain, but minor impact on the ending of this quest.

2.1. Give Shani the alcohol.

You can bring Shani one of the two liquors. It could be mead...

Give Shani the alcohol.

... or rowanberry brandy.

Give Shani the alcohol.

Bringing alcohol may, but it doesn't have to, cause that Shani will have stomach problems.

Geralt decided fortified beverages make the best pick-me-ups, and so brought Shani an ample flask.

2.2. Give Shani the present.

You can also bring Shani a branch of rowanberry...

Give Shani the present.

Geralt, remembering Shani's love for rowan blossoms, brought her a branch of them, which she delightedly plaited into her hair. Oh, if you'd only seen her then… She looked lovely, radiant, even.

or a chamomile flower (In my case, the flower was bugged and I couldn't pick it up).

Give Shani the present.

Once you decide which gift to give her, you will find her sitting at the table in the barn. She will be most happy, of course, if you bring her some rowanberries.

Use your Witcher Senses to find something that will cheer Shani up.

You'll start chatting. Which option you choose ("You've got me." or "You've got friends.") will make no difference and after a while you will go for a walk together.

3. Go on a walk with Shani.

During the walk you will be given several dialog options, some will only be available in certain cases.

"Weddings - not my thing." or "It was all right."

""Unfit" - what's that mean?" or "You'd convince her, I'm sure."

"I prefer you." or "Would've survived, somehow." or "That was Vlodimir, not me."

(Optional) "Let her down easy. I prefer you." or "I go with her."

When you get to the lake, Geral will kiss Shani.

"Better by a mile." or "Completly different."

(Optional) "Better." or "Just different."

Then you will have to make an important choice.

  • Kiss sure didn't sate me. - You'll go to the marina to spend the rest of the evening together.
  • Let's go back. - Your walk will end as well as this quest will end.

Go on a walk with Shani.

If you said that you hope for more than just a kiss, then you'll both go to the marina. There you will find a bottle of alcohol. If, as a gift, you gave Shani one of the bottles of alcohol then you will get an extra choice here:

  • You probably shouldn't mix. - You'll sail out on a boat to the lake and make love.
  • You're right, let's empty it. - You'll sail out on a boat to the lake and make love. In the end, Shani, who drank too much will throw up, which Geralt will try to comment on in a funny way.

If you gave Shani a gift or didn't let her drink too much:

The witcher took Shani on a long walk by the river and then… then they got in a boat and, as Geralt told it to me, rowed to the moon. Could my friend be turning into something of a romantic? Or perhaps he always was one? One way or the other, a pleasant afternoon and eventful evening spent together lasted until the break of dawn, during which time they... you'll forgive me if I spare you the details.

If you gave Shani alcohol and let her drink the alcohol you found at the marina:

The witcher took Shani on a long walk by the river and then… then they got in a boat and, as Geralt told it to me, rowed to the moon. Unfortunately, it seems something about moonlight disagrees with Shani's belly... Or else the poor thing was simply overcome with how romantic it all was. That unfortunate incident aside, both she and Geralt enjoyed the outing, and their pleasant afternoon and eventful evening stretched on until the break of dawn, during which time they... you'll forgive me if I spare you the details.

Go on a walk with Shani.

If you tell Shani that you should go back to the wedding:

Geralt took Shani aside for a long walk by the river – and a heart-to-heart chat. This turn of events was the natural conclusion to a day full of emotions and discoveries – after all that, who wouldn't want to sit down in a quiet spot with an old friend and talk about past times? Shani and Geralt certainly did, and so they talked and laughed until night turned to day, then parted, each returning to his or her own life.

If you leave the wedding before you complete this quest, it will end in failure:

I don't know if Geralt simply didn't notice Shani's sour mood, or deliberately chose to disregard it, but one way or another he left her to work through it on her own and returned to his own concerns. It is a shame he did so, for something tells me that evening might have had a very moving finale...
