To start this mission, approach the house where the ranch owner lives. Mr. Geddes has to go to town and he'll have new assignments for you. He wants you to help his son with a horse and help his wife with a mare that is about to give birth.

With the other ranch hands busy, and Geddes heading in to town, John takes on more work on the ranch.

Gold Medal Checklist

  • Tire out Jeremiah within 45 seconds
  • Feed Jeremiah a treat
  • Teach Jack to ride without his horse bucking him off
  • Win the race back to Pronghorn Ranch

Objectives of Fatherhood, for Beginners

1. Follow Abe / Help Duncan / Calm Duncan's horse

Follow Abe until he shows you where Duncan is. From what Abe tells you, you can guess that Mr. Geddes went to the town for "social purposes".

Duncan is standing next to a horse named Jeremiah that hasn' t been completely broken yet.

Calm down and pat the horse as long as necessary.

2. Tire out Jeremiah

Get on your horse and go through the gate. You must deplete the entire horse's stamina gauge. If you want to earn the gold medal in this mission, it cannot take you more than 45 seconds.

The quickest way to get your horse tired is to make a few jumps to use most of its stamina.

Then start galloping to use the remaining stamina.

3. Go to Duncan and let him ride Jeremiah

Before you return to Duncan, open your inventory wheel, switch to the Horse tab, and feed Jeremiah an apple.

Then ride into the corral where Duncan is waiting for you. John will get off the horse and Duncan will get on it.

4. Watch Duncan

Duncan will get on Jeremiah and start riding around the corral. You'll be talking to each other. Duncan will agree to lend his previous horse to Jack.

After a few laps you will be interrupted by Duncan's mother, Mrs. Geddes, that you were supposed to help.

5. Help Mrs. Geddes

Follow Mrs. Geddes to the stable.

Help a mare in the barn to give birth to a foal. Find legs, grip and pull.

Looks like Mrs. Geddes is interested in getting to know you a little bit better. She'll change her mind when she finds out you're married.

6. Go to the house to speak with Abigail

Go home and talk to Abigail about Jack. You will decide that John will take Jack for a short horseback ride.

7. Mount your horse / Ride with Jack

Get on your horse and follow Jack.

Don't let Jack go faster than a canter and he won't get bucked off the horse and you will complete another requirement to earn the gold medal in this mission. The easiest way is if you just follow him with patience.

When you reach the stream, you decide to turn back and have a race at the same time.

8. Race Jack back to the ranch

Ride back to the ranch.

If you want to get the gold medal you should reach the ranch before Jack, which shouldn't be too difficult.

Only Jack will be a little disappointed that he couldn't win.

After completing Fatherhood, for Beginners you will get or will be able to get Old Habits (1 of 2).
