You will be able to start this mission after you have completed the Home of the Gentry? and Gainful Employment missions. In order to start this mission, return to your ranch and talk to Uncle. He will tell you that he has heard that Charles Smith is alive and that he is in Saint Denis.
So both of you will get on the train and travel to Saint Denis.
Uncle tells John that he has heard that Charles Smith is alive and in Saint Denis. John and Uncle go to Saint Denis to track him down.
Gold Medal Checklist
- After arriving in Saint Denis, find Charles within 1 minute 50 seconds
- Kill all of Guido Martelli's men within 10 seconds

Objectives of Bare Knuckle Friendships
1. Follow Uncle / Ask about Charles at the Saloon or the Fence / Find Charles at Saint Saturnines
To earn the gold medal in this mission you must reach Charles within 1 minute 50 seconds. When you get off the train, you and Uncle will leave the station together and when you reach the street you will split up to look for Charles separately.
Two places will be marked on your map where you can find the information you need.
Quickly call your horse, mount it and gallop to one of these places.
Go inside and ask the bartender or the fence about Charles.
Don't wait for an answer, just go outside right away and quickly go to the new place that will be marked on your map.
When you get there, Uncle will already be waiting for you there and together you will enter the side alley where the street fights take place.
You will meet Charles there, who is getting ready for the next fight.
Charles will be happy to meet you. He is throwing fights for money, but he won't do it in the next fight that's about to start. Charles will bet on his own victory and you should also bet on him if you want to earn some cash.
2. Watch the fight
You can cheer or boo during the fight or just wait until it's over. Charles will win.
After the fight is over, you will collect your winnings from the bookie and head to the port where Charles left his belongings.
3. Follow Charles to the docks
Go to port with Charles. On your way you will talk about Arthur, Dutch and Micah, among others.
When you get to the port, you'll run into Martelli's men. Martelli once worked with Angelo Bronte. They will recognize you.
4. Take out Martelli's Men
You will be taunted by Martelli's men. After a few seconds you and Charles will take cover behind the nearby crates and the shooting will begin.
Quickly shoot your enemies before they take cover. If you kill them all in no more than 10 seconds then you will meet one of the gold medal requirements.
5. Get on the wagon with Charles / Meet with Uncle / Ride with Uncle
After Martelli's men are dead, Charles will take his belongings and get on a nearby wagon. Join him and you will leave the town together. Charles will be driving the wagon.
Uncle will be waiting for you at the city border by the bridge. All three of you will return safely to your farm.
After completing Bare Knuckle Friendships you will get or will be able to get Home Improvement for Beginners and An Honest Day's Labors.
