There Be Dragons Blacktail Quest

Group: Side Quests

Season: Spring

You will receive this quest from Borvy Borko and Slippery Jack whom you will meet near the river. You must agree to help them and then, when you fulfill their request, they will repair the bridge over which you will get to the other side of the river - its an objective of the quest "Longing for Her".

The Mushroom Twins, Borvy Borko and Slippery Jack promised to fix the bridge once Yaga had aided them in dealing with the supposedly fearsome dragon. Each of them suggested a different friend of theirs to help her with the task.

Objectives of There Be Dragons

1. Find Knight (Good) / Find Rebel (Evil)

Depending on your morality, you will be given different instructions on how to complete your assigned task. If you follow the path of light then:

Of the two, Borvy Borko seemed more in line with Yaga’s character. She chose to seek out Knight as he had suggested.

If you follow the path of darkness then:

Of the two, Slippery Jack seemed more in line with Yaga’s character. She chose to seek out Rebel as he had suggested.

In both cases, the mushroom you need to talk to is located in the same place - in the canyon. Head there. You can destroy the creepers that block the way by using hocus.

After the conversation with the mushroom, a new skill will unlock - Witch Apprentice.

2. Get out of the canyon

Leave the canyon. Once you've done that you'll be able to try out the next feature of the gameplay - Special Treat.

3. Fight Rebel (Good)

Knight – one of the Grand mushrooms – revealed his plan: he said that the dragon needed to be buried under the rubble of its own lair, and for that, a hefty amount of black powder was required. Unfortunately, the only one in possession of such an exotic material was none other than Rebel – and he would not be willing to part with it so easily.

If you are a good person then you must go to the cave where Rebel (Spring) is residing and defeat him in battle.

3.1. Collect the powder from the chest

The battle was over. It was high time to bring Knight the black powder.

After the fight is over, take the powder from the chest you find in the cave.

3.2. Leave the lair

When you try to leave the cave then a new mushroom will appear - Spy from whom you will receive new information on what you should do.

4. Fight Knight (Evil)

Rebel – one of the Cursed mushrooms – claimed that the dragon was not real. He believed that the real problem in the land lay in the greed for honey. He also revealed that the will-o’-wisps were hoarding honey in their cave, and for that reason the cave needed to be blown up. Doing so would require Rebel to obtain a specific set of blueprints, according to which he could construct a bomb fit for the purpose. Unfortunately, the only one in possession of such an exotic material was none other than Knight – and he would not be willing to part with it so easily.

If you are an evil person then you have to go to the place where Knight (Spring) is residing and defeat him in battle.

4.1. Collect the plans from the chest

The battle was over. It was high time to bring Rebel the plans.

After the fight is over, take the Plans for the Contraption from the chest you find nearby.

4.2. Leave the lair

When you try to leave the cave then a new mushroom will appear - Whacko from whom you will receive new information on what you should do.

5. Go to the dragon’s den

If you are a "good person" and after defeating Rebel you met Spy.

As soon as Yaga had snatched the spoils, another mushroom appeared. He appeared to be a Spy, and he claimed that neither Rebel nor Knight really knew how to deal with the dragon properly. Instead, he suggested that there were ulterior powers at play, and getting to the bottom of the ploy would require luring the supposed dragon out of its cave.

Armed with a proper lure, she set off for the cave by the windmill.

If you are an "evil person" and after defeating Knight you met Whacko.

As soon as Yaga had snatched the spoils, another mushroom appeared. His rather chaotic behavior made Yaga label him a Whacko. He claimed that neither Rebel nor Knight really knew how to deal with the dragon properly. Instead, he suggested that the beast should be seized for its immense power and for that it needed to be lured out of its cave.

Whether you are good or evil and which of the mushrooms you have defeated and talked to, you must now go to the entrance of the cave where the "dragon" resides - Dragon's Den Entrance.

6. Plant a lure

Having trekked the land far and wide, Yaga finally reached the mighty dragon’s den. It was time to plant the lure...

7. Hide and see what happens

...and that she did. All that was left was to hide and wait. Conveniently, there was a highly unsuspicious rock nearby.

It is enough that you literally for a second walk behind a rock nearby. Then a small mushroom kid should appear by the pot.

8. Talk to the mushroom kid

Talk to the kid - his name is Twigg, and then you will learn from him that his sister imprisoned in the cave by the dragon and he will ask you to help free her. After the conversation, the gate to the cave will be opened.

9. Rescue the mushroom’s sister

To her surprise, no dragon appeared. And yet there was someone by the lure – another mushroom, a kid by the looks of it. He acted in a rather shady manner, yet Yaga heeded his tall tale – that the dragon rests deeper in the cave, and that it had taken the mushroom’s sister captive.

Knowing all too well that the little fungi must have been pulling her leg, the brave dragon slayer ventured inside the den anyway...

Follow the path deeper into the cave. Along the way you will find your first sticky arrows. Soon after, you will be able to test them on bees that will attack you. You can also use them to plug bees' nests.

After a while you will reach a place where you will have to jump down to the cave below. Do so and approach the dragon called Peewee and then after a short conversation the fight will begin.

10. Fight the cursed imp

...just to find a gluttonous imp entangled in the Roots. His mind seemed all twisted, and only one thing was clear – he would not go down without a fight.

Peewee is not moving. To inflict heavy damage on him, collect the honey found in the cave and fill the geysers with it. The geysers reset after a while. You can also shoot him with arrows, but the damage will be low. There are bee nests in the cave from which bees will come out from time to time. You can seal them with sticky arrows.

11. Talk to the wounded imp

After the fight, talk to Peewee and decide whether you want to help him or not. This decision will affect your morality.

12. Leave the place

After a long and exhausting battle, Yaga emerged victorious! Whether it counts as an act of slaying the dragon or not is not for me to judge. However, the dragon problem had been resolved.

If the mushroom twins stayed true to their word, they must have rebuilt the bridge by now.

The exit from the cave is located behind Peewee.

13. Return to Borvy and Jack

You must now return to Borvy Borko and Slippery Jack. You have to do it on foot. Temporarily you will not be able to use black cats teleportation. At some point when you try to cross the bridge the road will be blocked by a large boulder and you will have to do something for it in order to pass further.

14. Find the Red Rose

This objective will come up if you haven't yet found the Treasure Chest in which you can find the Golden Fishing Line.

Ah, yes. The stone. Yaga had the pleasure of meeting the dignified persona. As they overcame the language barrier (not without help from some highly competent middlemen), it became apparent all of her efforts had to come to a halt, for a while at the very least.

A line for the fishing rod needed to be found urgently. And a peculiar Red Rose was behind its disappearance.

14.1. Find a way to open the chest

Use the hocus while targeting the glow of the chest, and this will cause the chest to reveal itself and you will be able to open and loot it. Inside you will find the Golden Fishing Line.

14.2. Return to the Stone

Yaga outsmarted the demonic rose and got her hands on the magic line. The stone was waiting on the bridge but its patience must have been running thin by then.

Once you have a fishing line return to the stone and you will then possess a new skill - you will be able to fish.

15. Go fishing

The stone’s motivations and goals were clearly beyond Yaga’s understanding – it was time for her to fish. The sands of the nearby riverbank would prove a convenient spot to do so.

Head to a nearby fishing spot. Cast the fishing rod and when you see that the float has moved then press the corresponding key / button again. It doesn't matter what you fish out, it will be enough to change the objective of the quest.

16. Return to Borvy and Jack (finally)

The bridge was fixed, and there was nothing stopping her from getting back on the crumb trail.

Now that the endeavors of the rock-kind were resolved, there was nothing stopping Yaga from getting back to the twins.

Return to the twin mushrooms. The stone will no longer block the bridge.

As a reward for completing this quest, you will receive the Lost Page of Sticky Arrows and Fake Sheep (Reward).

The bridge was fixed, and there was nothing stopping her from getting back on the crumb trail.

After completing There Be Dragons you will get or will be able to get Maneater.
