In order to start this mission you need to complete The Joys of Civilization mission and then talk to Charles Châtenay who you will find sitting at the bar in the Doyle's Tavern in Saint Denis. Buy him a drink, he will tell you a little bit about his life, and before you leave, he will give you one of his drawings.

Objectives of The Artist's Way
1. Investigate the commotion (Part II)
Some time after your first meeting, another marker will appear on the map.
When you go there, you'll meet an angry man in front of Châtenay's house. The man will break open the door and pull Charles out and then he'll start pointing a gun at him.
An angry husband threatens Châtenay, claiming he slept with his wife.
2. Save Charles Châtenay
Come up to the angry man and threaten him and then he will leave.
If you delay the rescue, Charles will fall to his knees and start begging the man for mercy. This will calm the man down and he will decide to leave Charles alone and leave. For a moment Charles will be mad at you for not trying to save him.
You'll exchange a few words with each other and then, before saying goodbye, Charles will invite you to his exhibition, which will take place soon in the local gallery.
Charles invited you to his exhibition at the gallery in Saint Denis.
3. Meet up with Charles Châtenay (Part III)
Châtenay unveils his latest work, at the gallery in Saint Denis.
Some time after the previous events, you will be able to visit Charles' exhibition in the gallery in Saint Denis.
The gallery is located on the first floor of the building.
4. Search the gallery for Charles
Charles is standing in the corner of the room where his paintings are shown. Go up to him and talk to him.
Unfortunately, Charles' paintings will cause many negative emotions in the people who watch them. A quarrel will begin, which at some point will turn into a brawl.
5. Fend off the attackers
Charles will run out of the room, and you'll have to deal with the attackers in a hand-to-hand combat.
6. Find Charles / Follow Charles
Charles is going to leave the gallery. Follow him.
Follow him until you get to the house of one of his mistresses, where he's going to hide for a few days. Charles will enter the house and this stage of the mission will end.
7. Escort Charles (Part IV)
Some time after the incident in the gallery you will be able to meet Charles again. This time he will be dressed up as a woman and ask you to help him leave the city.
Disguised us a prostitute, Châtenay makes his way to the docks to escape Saint Denis, and the angry locals, on a boat.
When escorting Charles to port, you must avoid groups of men who are looking for him for various reasons. At the end of the street, you'll meet the owners of a bar where Charles is not welcome. Fortunately, you can hide from them behind a passing tram.
Passing by the post office, Charles will notice a group of men he owes money to, so he will turn back and enter the post office building. You should follow him.
Apart from a few funny situations, the rest of the way to the port will run smoothly.
But when Charles is about to board the ship, three men will run out of it and attack you.
8. Fight the attackers
Charles will run aside and hide somewhere and you will have to defeat three men in hand-to-hand combat. Be careful, because one of them has a knife.
When it's safe, Charles will come back from hiding and board the ship. You will say goodbye and this will be the end of your common adventure.
Leave the place quickly before the law guards show up.
