This mission is a follow-up to "The Buried Life" mission. It begins when you leave the underground after defeating Yaseotoko.
Deep within the Shibuya underground, Akito and KK face off against a mysterious figure wearing a Yaseotoko mask. During the fight, KK realizes that their enemy is using his former body as a puppet, which deeply unsettles him. Taking advantage of the hesitation, Yaseotoko rips KK out of Akito's body.
Akito awakens to find himself alone, without KK or his powers, leaving him at a massive disadvantage against the Visitors. Powerless on his own to save his sister, Akito decides to rescue KK. He returns to the safehouse in search of any clue that might help him locate the wayward spirit.

To begin The Caves of Steel you must first complete The Buried Life.
Objectives of The Caves of Steel
1. Get back to KK's safehouse
Without KK, you won't be able to use the fast travel option, so you'll have to travel to the Safe House on foot. In the apartment you will meet a mysterious woman who will hand you a Train Pas Case asking you to hand this item to KK when you meet again.
You will also acquire five Thicket Talismans.
Thicket Talisman
Creates a bush that blocks Visitors' lines of sight.
Talismans are consumed and disappear once used.
2. Head outside
Go outside. When you do this your character will notice a strange black trail.
4. Make your way to the heart of Hirokawa Shrine
You need to reach the main building of the shrine. The area of the shrine has been overrun by several Visitors which you will have to get rid of. You can eliminate some of them by using quick purge...
...and others you can finish off with your bow.
When you get rid of them, enter the sanctuary. There you will find a cube in which KK was trapped. You and KK will be reunited so you will regain your previous powers and even get a new one.
5. Defeat the enemies
Take advantage of your newly acquired skill.
After getting rid of all the opponents, you will witness a spectacular event. KK will inform you that the ritual has begun. This event will end this mission and the entire second chapter.
After completing The Caves of Steel you will get or will be able to get Pillar of Light.
