Al-Tabari: Tafsir of al-Tabari

Al-Tabari knows the Quran as well as one could hope. He must have dedicated every moment of his waking life to the words of the Prophet. The word of God is one, but men interpret it many different ways. He has tried his best to record these discussions and debates so we can all get closer to the true Word of God. In the intellectual sphere, it is a truly courageous and daunting work.

Lost BookKalila wa-Dimna

It is in the same room as the historical site Kalila and Dimna.

Kalila wa-Dimna

My friend would tell me these when we wandered the streets looking for morsels to steal. He told me he had made them up! Only later did I realise that some people can recite these tales almost as readily as the Quran. My favorite tale is the one with the carpenter and the monkey and to me it teaches an important lesson about patience and walking before you run.

Kitab al-Azif

Kitab al-Azif

I do not believe in magic as Nehal does but I find it hard to fathom that this Al-Hazred created this in jest. I am attracted and repulsed by its incantations and dare not speak any of it aloud for fear that the nameless horrors described in its pages will leap out into this world. It is foolish, I know, but there is something about this book that I cannot explain.

I would enjoy the chance to travel to the Far East and see how they live and learn about their ways. Al-Tajir claims that, in India, there are men who carry beards of up to three cubits long!

The Banu Musa: Book of Ingenious Devices

Our dear Banu Musa have so many ideas, they overflowed into this book! I am proud of them, and these devices are indeed ingenious. To think of a flute that plays on its own! There are many wonders here and I suspect some of them will soon be made a reality.
