To be able to start this quest you must have Pet Pal talent then you should talk to one of the little chickens or directly to Big Marge.
We encountered a brood of panicking hens who have lost their eggs.

Quest stages of Counting your Chickens
1. Knows What Happened
Talk to Big Marge.
According to Big Marge, the hens' eggs were taken by a large, many-limbed beast.
2. Start Found Eggs
Go to the location of Small Viscous Eggs (lvl 9). You will be attacked by Voidwoken hatchlings. Kill them all.
We found some chicken eggs - they have been tainted. Voidwoken hatchlings have emerged from them.
3. Picked Up Helpless Egg
A little further you will find a small, unaffected egg - Peeper (Egg). Take it.
One of the eggs seems to have been unaffected. We picked it up.
3.1. Returned Helpless Egg (Recommended)
Go back to Big Marge and hand her the egg you found. She will reward you with the location of a treasure hidden behind the coop.
We returned the surviving egg to a brood of hens. Perhaps we can check on its condition later.
3.2. Helpless Egg Became Food
It's an egg so you can eat it :-) Not recommended :P
We ate the unaffected egg. It could have used a pinch of salt, and fewer bones.
3.2.1. Close Informed Became Food
We informed the hens that their only unaffected egg was eaten. They weren't pleased.
4. Egg Destroyed By Attack
Unlikely, for example, when you hit and destroy the Peeper (Egg) yourself.
The unaffected egg was destroyed.
4.1. Close Informed Egg Destroyed
We informed the hens that their only unaffected egg was destroyed. They weren't pleased.
4.2. Close Informed Ghost About Gone Egg
We informed the spirit of Big Marge that the only unaffected agg was destroyed.
5. Egg Hatched
If you returned the egg then you should come back here a bit later.
A voidling chick has hatched from the egg. It doesn't appear to be hostile towards us.
6. Became Mama
Talk to Peeper.
The voidling chick is following us around. It seems to think that one of us is its mother.
7. Knows About Rooster
Cast Spirit Vision so you will be able to see Spirit of Big Marge then ask her about Peeper's father.
We learned that the chick's father, a 'special' rooster, might be able to help the chick.
8. Close Chick To Rooster Kill
Select the character with Pet Pal talent and talk to Magicockerel. Peeper must be close by. Tell him it's his son and then select ...
*Wink and say that you'll 'take care' of Peeper.*
The result will be ...
We brought the voidling chick to its father. He told us that it was an abomination, and must die. We killed the chick, and the rooster rewarded us.
8.1. Close Chick Dead
The voidling chick is dead.
8.1.1. Quest Reward
When the quest is completed, the chest will appear. Do not forget to loot it.
9. Close Chick To Rooster No Kill
We brought the voidling chick to its father. He told us that it was an abomination, and must die. We refused to do such a thing, but the distraught chick morphed into a creature of the Void and attacked us.
10. Close Rooster Dead
The rooster was the only one who could have potentially dealt with the voidling chick, but he is dead.
11. Close No One Left
We're not longer able to inform any of the hens about the fate of their eggs - they're all dead or otherwise gone.
12. Close Left R C Hens
We have left Reaper's Coast without resolving the matter of the eggs.
13. Close Left R C Pet
We have left Reaper's Coast with the voidling chick still in tow. Who knows how long it will follow us for...
