A Scholar from Times Past Divinity: Original Sin 2 Quest

Group: My Story So Far ...

Starting Map: The Hold

This quest will automatically be added to your journal after starting a new game if your main character is Fane.

Eons ago, I studied the Veil - a barrier of pure Source hiding something in the universe. Alas, the King forbade my research, took me from my family, and sealed me in a tomb. I woke up when some poor mortal uncovered my place of rest (I do feel quite bad for devouring his Source...). Alas, I was arrested before I could discover what happened to my wife, daughter, or people, but rumours suggest answers may lie in the Blackpits oil field on Reaper's Coast.

Quest stages of A Scholar from Times Past

1. Lost Mask

Some mangy human witch has stolen my shapeshifting mask! I must get it back or craft a new one. Fortunately, I remember how - I simply need some Source Orbs and a tool to gently rip the faces from dead bodies.

2. Fane Washed Ashore

Dry land, at last! And if I made it to this island, perhaps the wretched thief did too. I shall escape to Reaper's Coast forthwith, but I should keep a metaphorical eye out for the materials I need to craft a new mask. Until then, it would be wise to keep my face covered. These primitives are easily frightened.

3. Learned About Kniles

The simpleton blacksmith in Fort Joy was rather uncooperative when I asked her about a face ripping tool, but it seems some 'Kniles' person beneath the fort may have a more open mind.

4. Got Face Ripper

I have finally found a face ripper! Applying it to a fresh corpse will steal its face - one of the ingredients I need to craft that race's mask. Eventually I can craft a new Mask of the Shapeshifter Thankfully, that is one of the crafting recipes I have memorised.

5. Met Windego

I found the foul thief of my shapeshifter mask! She seemed to be under the influence of some lord of 'gods' that holds a grudge against me. I cannot fathom why. Jealousy, perhaps?

6. Voidwoken Taunts

The Voidwoken call me a traitor. Is it not enough to try and kill me, they must insult me too?

7. Met Gratiana

I met a priestess, worshipping Lady Amadia of all people. I knew her as one of my lords, but here Amadia is seen as a goddess.

8. Met Gratiana Undead

Amadia's priestess is undead! There seems to be more naked bone in this world than I expected. At least she has the good sense to hide her features.

9. Got Mask Back

My mask is once more - well, mine. It remains quite functional, thankfully the ape didn't do any damage.

10. Talked To Amadia

The Lady Amadia tells me that the King wiped out our people. The Eternals are gone - my family, my friends - all wiped out. Only these seven remain - now worshipped as Gods. Oh, and apparently I am the last hope of what remains of my people. The lady has named me her champion - her 'Godwoken' - and I am to compete with the champions of other gods for Divinity. Not that there'll be much of a competition...

11. Act2 Start

Finally, Reaper's Coast! And what a charming desolate wasteland it is. No matter - the Blackpits oil fields lie to the east. Maybe there I can confirm what the Lady Amadia told me.

12. Left Lich

I met a lich, imprisoned and drained of his Source. It seems I started something of a trend. He remains strapped to his table.

13. Freed Lich

I met a lich, drained of his Source. I set him free and he drained the Source from some nearby mortals. It was rather ghastly, but I did the same when I first escaped...

14. Found Eternal Relics

I have found Eternal relics in the Blackpits! My people were here, which means my answers must be close by.

15. Talked To Eternal Aetera

I found one! A living Eternal! Well, not living any more, but still... It seems she blamed me for the fall of the Eternals. The nerve. Still, if what she said is true, Amadia lied to me. The Seven started a war and, in ending it, threw the Eternals to the Void. All because they wanted the power of the Veil. Aetera had been working on a device to kill them, but someone seems to have stolen it.

16. Landed On Nameless Isle

This isle is filled with the works of my people. It all feels familiar, but alien too. Perhaps I am spending too much time with mortals.

17. Fane Found Academy

We've uncovered the Academy where I did my research! This is where life as I knew it ended, but perhaps this is where it is begins anew.

18. Refused Promise

A Voidwoken - or an Eternal - or a... whatever they are, one of them offered me the God King's Covenant. I refused, naturally.

19. Took Promise

A Voidwoken - or an Eternal - or a... whatever they are, one of them offered me the God King's Covenant. I accepted. It is time to take back what was stolen from us.

20. Act3 Start

We seek Arx, a large human settlement, where we believe Dallis has fled with the Aeteran. She used it to steal the powers of the Gods, and not even they know what she plans to do with them. We don't know her agenda, but we know she can't be trusted. We've seen how she treats her fellow humans...

21. Chose To Ascend

I have ascended to Divinity and sealed the Veil, with the Eternals on this side and the God King trapped on the other. It is unfortunate that the mortals of this world will have to return our Source, but at last my people are free of the Void. At last, we are home again.

22. Chose To Ascend Fane

I have ascended to become the new Divine. Thanks to my new powers, I was able to restore the Eternals and free them of the God King's yoke.

23. Chose Source4 All

In the end, what are we but the decisions we make? I could not choose to sacrifice the mortal races to save my own. I have shared Rivellon's Source amongst them all - they will decide their own fate.

24. Chose Companion Divine

In the end, what are we but the decisions we make? I could not choose to sacrifice the mortal races to save my own. This is a precious world - a mortal world - and now it shall be led by a mortal Divine.

25. Chose Lucian

In the end, what are we but the decisions we make? My daughter is right - our people have caused too much pain. I sacrificed my Source to seal the Veil and protect this world from them. I am Eternal no more. This is my home now.

26. Chose God King

In the end what are we but the decisions we make? The fate of my people is my responsibility, and I will see it set right, no matter what the cost. The Eternals have returned, and the God King with them.

27. Chose Demon

Finally, Divinity is mine! Alas, I could not bring my people back - this demonic pact features some rather... stringent conditions. But I will rule this land as best I can. After all, how bad could it be?

28. Relieved Of Promise

I am free of the King's grip! He may have trapped me once, but I will not be ensnared by his Covenant. I shall choose my own destiny.

29. Arx Small Void Woken

Harina, once my assistant, is now a small (and somewhat adorable, I must say) Voidwoken. She met me on the road and begged me to seal the God King on the other side of the Veil, while letting the Eternals return. She says my people could be free of the Void once and for all...
